A Russian man, Denis Obrezko, has been arrested in Thailand, facing potential extradition to the United States on cybercrime charges. Obrezko is suspected of being a member of the notorious cyber espionage group, Void Blizzard, which has been linked to hacking attacks aligned with Kremlin interests. The 35-year-old was apprehended on November 6 during a joint operation by the FBI and Thai authorities, one week after his arrival in Phuket. Thai police revealed that Obrezko had previously breached security systems and targeted government agencies in both Europe and the United States. He will be held at the Criminal Court in Bangkok while awaiting extradition proceedings. Local police found electronic devices in his hotel room, which are being examined forensically. Microsoft Threat Intelligence (MTI) has previously flagged Void Blizzard for targeting organizations opposed by Russia, particularly in government, defense, transport, media, NGOs, and healthcare sectors in the US and Europe, including Ukraine. Researchers noted that the group often uses stolen sign-in details purchased from online marketplaces to gain access and steal large amounts of emails and files. Void Blizzard frequently targets government and law enforcement entities, especially in NATO countries and those providing military or humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Their activities have impacted various sectors in Ukraine, including education, transportation, and defense.
